Free Comic Book Day!!!
Free Comic Book Day is here! This once a year, (first Saturday in May), Halloween for sequential art is best spent at your local comic shop, and this year that’s where I was. I set up shop at Illusive Comics and Games to sell prints and sketches, a portion of the proceeds being donated to the charity of the day Illusive was sponsoring Autism Speaks. Here are a few pics from the fun cyclone!!!

Hero Envy AKA the Swass Adventures
Hello all and few.
Been busy again, and I still have a few old things waiting to be share-able on the blog. However, something I did recently that I can show, was a project for an old buddy of mine Keith Gleason. He’s a writer, actor, artist, stand-up-comic and more! This guy does it all ladies and Beetle Borgs. I was asked to do a fun pin-up for Issue 3 of the Hero Envy comic. Hero Envy was a popular Web “TV” show. It has since morphed into a video podcast, a Blog, and now a series of comics! Check them out if you get the chance.
My process I actually used on this one was a little weird. I was doing doodles of my take on the characters in pic pen, color sticks, anything on hand on scraps of handy paper over a few days. Then I gathered the Image I liked best of each character, scanned them all into Photoshop and com-posited them into a collage/scene. and roughly filled drew in the rest of the scene and background on my Cintiq. Then I printed it out threw it on a light-box and inked it on Bristol with a Japanese brush pen. Scanned that back in, made a few digital white out corrections, and colored it.
Happy Holidays!
One of the Things I talked about not being able to show a while back, was a company e-card. I t was being sent out to notify clients of a holiday donation being made in their name.
I had to do like 6 versions for different countries and charities. The Visual assets were provided, I did the animation and sound design. Had help with some of the interactivity, by Josh Miller . I did one of these for them last year as well. Hopefully it will be every year. Anyway here it is.

Prime time!
Here is a bic pen sketch I did of the old Malibu comics character “Prime“. Malibu was around during the 90′s comics craze. Eventually it was was bought by Marvel, and the characters have not been heard from again. The books were not great, but not as bad as some stuff out at the time. Malibu’s main problem, was that most of their characters were derivative of Marvel and DC’s main heroes. Prime was similar to superman sure, but more importantly he was similar to Captain Marvel (Shazam as some know him). He was in reality a kid who due to scientific experiments could turn into a hulking super hero. Shazam was the same character concept created decades earlier, only using magic. At the time I was reading Prime, I was not that up on my Captain Marvel, so I thought the idea was a new one. Regardless, it did put a new spin on it. The entire Prime body was made of a organic goo, costume included. The veiny physique and crazy machismo, all made sense because it was a super hero body created from the imagination of a kid. There was also a story line where the kid was tired of being goody-goody and threw a temper tantrum, so when he transformed he looked like biker prime, complete with a scruffy berad. I thought it was kind an amusing send up of the comic industry at the time. Apparently at some point during the mid-to-late-90′s there was an Ultra Force cartoon. Ultra force was like Malibu’s Avengers, I watched it on netflix last night, and it was pretty bad. the writing was awful , the theme song was horrible, the caracters designs were odd. the animation itself was passable, but it was just not good overall. Regardless when I was playing League of Legends that night I sketched up this guy:
Zombie Jobs come back from the dead!!!
About a year ago, I did a series of zombified movie and TV characters for UGO. Recently they asked me to do it again, but this time with celebrities, (with a few characters and memes as well.) Right now it’s on their main page, but the direct link is here . It was pretty fun, and I now know who Check Testa is. Check out the links and in case you are too lazy to click I am posting a few here as well.

News from the Front.
So back around August 2011 MC Frontalot came out with a new album, I am a fan, and got it immediately. One track in particular I enjoyed was I’ll Form the Head, which he did with two other rappers, and was about Voltron/Power Ranger-type pilots arguing about who is the bestest most important part of the team. I kept listening to it on repeat while I biked and walked and such. I started to get a real clear image of a cool animated video that could be done for it. I decided to pitch it to him, I got home one day and over the weekend did a bunch of work on it. (This is SO unlike me it’s insane). I had an E-mail, from a tweet he had previously put out asking for artists to help with another project, I had responded, but they no longer needed help. Any way I sent my resume, some samples, a link to my site, and the pieces I did for the proposed video. No response. OK , shortly after this I realized he was doing a kickstarter , where he specifically mentions he wants to do an animated video, I resent my previous email with some modifications. No response. Later There is a call put out via his web site that he is looking for animators to work on this video. I responded again, making it clear I was interested in any job big or small. No response. He was on tour and I saw him in Santa Cruz, great show, I decided to make sure it was not an e-mail snafu, or someone out of the loop running his e-mail. I gathered up my courage and handed him personally an envelope with my resume pitch ideas, and art. He was polite and thanked me. After that No response. SO I was holding on to this stuff on the off-chance I was going to ever be invited to work on the video but it has been months now so it is safe to assume I am not. It’s weird, this was one of those things where in my head it was a perfect confluence of events, and I was unreasonably confidant I would be hired on to make or at least help make his video. I have no hard feelings, but as with every job I ever try to get I really hate the lack of response. Well enough crying here are some of the preliminary designs and art I created for the video.
Off the road again…
Well a million projects at once, followed by a 3 week vacation to the East Coast, and now I can start posting up some of what I had been swamped with , as well as maybe putting up some fun-time-Gaz sketches as well. PS dig the snazzy new layout care of my awesome wife-bot Quelyn.
This is actually a project I did after the 5 huge ones, It was for an anniversary or wedding gift.

Armor-Dillo
Over at Mattycollector they are running a create-a-character contest, below is my fist entry. Part of the contest is to use mainly pre-existing parts from other figures.
Armor-Dillo: EVIL ARMORED WARRIOR
REAL NAME: PLATO D-FENS
One of the many denzians living in the lower mountainlands of Eternia. His thick hide, makes him impervious to most damage. Not officially affliated with Skelletor, or any other group, he generally attacks caravans or other easy targets passing through his territory. This can bring him into conflict with He-man and other forces for good . Armor-Dillo is also often manipulated into doing Skelletor’s bidding by Beastman.

AARGH! MADBALLS!!!
From the second, or third tier of 80′s toys comes the Madballs! Like many properties from that time, they have a had a recent Resurrection, and fittingly it had not done as well as it’s peers. Regardless, one cannot deny the gross over-the-top appeal of the disgusting characters as balls. This is my rendition of the classic version of the Madball Aargh, from the original first wave of the toys. Done completely in Photoshop on my Cintiq.
