Zombie Jobs come back from the dead!!!

By Gaz On February 3, 2012 · 2 Comments · In Illustration, Work for Hire

About a year ago, I did a series of zombified movie and TV characters for UGO. Recently they asked me to do it again, but this time with celebrities, (with a few characters and memes as well.)  Right now it’s on their main page, but the direct link is here . It was pretty fun, and I now know who Check Testa is. Check out the links and in case you are too lazy to click I am posting a few here as well.

News from the Front.

By Gaz On January 29, 2012 · 4 Comments · In Animation, Personal

So back around August 2011 MC Frontalot came out with a new album, I am a fan, and got it immediately. One track in particular I enjoyed was I’ll Form the Head, which he did with two other rappers, and was about Voltron/Power Ranger-type pilots arguing about who is the bestest most important part of the team. I kept listening to it on repeat while I biked and walked and such. I started to get a real clear image of a cool animated video that could be done for it. I decided to pitch it to him, I got home one day and over the weekend did a bunch of work on it. (This is SO unlike me it’s insane). I had an E-mail, from a tweet he had previously put out asking for artists to help with another project, I had responded, but they no longer needed help. Any way I sent my resume, some samples, a link to my site, and the  pieces I did for the proposed video. No response. OK , shortly after this I realized he was doing a kickstarter , where he specifically mentions he wants to do an animated video, I resent my previous email with some modifications. No response.  Later There is a call put out via his web site that he is looking for animators to work on this video. I responded again, making it clear I was interested in any job big or small. No response. He was on tour and I saw him in Santa Cruz, great show, I decided to make sure it was not an e-mail snafu, or someone out of the loop running his e-mail. I gathered up my courage and handed him personally an envelope with my resume pitch ideas, and art. He was polite and thanked me. After that No response. SO I was holding on to this stuff on the off-chance I was going to ever be invited to work on the video but it has been months now so it is safe to assume I am not. It’s weird, this was one of those things where in my head it was a perfect confluence of events, and I was unreasonably confidant I would be hired on to make or at least help make his video. I have no hard feelings, but as with every job I ever try to get I really hate the lack of response. Well enough crying here are some of the preliminary designs and art I created for the video.

Plane old drawing.

By Gaz On January 23, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Personal, Sketches

Here is a pencil drawing I did on the plane out to NJ back in Dec. I have a bunch of finished projects done to show, but some I am still waiting to be made public, and some I need to format to show here. Anyway enjoy this for now with added blue line removal.

Off the road again…

By Gaz On January 11, 2012 · Leave a Comment · In Caricatures

Well a million projects at once, followed by a 3 week vacation to the East Coast, and now I can start posting up some of what I had been swamped with , as well as maybe putting up some fun-time-Gaz sketches as well. PS dig the snazzy new layout care of my awesome wife-bot Quelyn.

This is actually a project I did after the 5 huge ones, It was for an anniversary or wedding gift.

Oh yeah…

By Gaz On October 2, 2011 · 1 Comment · In Caricatures, Commision, Illustration

Still swamped with stuff I can’t show anyone until November, but I did this as a commission for a birthday gift, image was to be put on a zippo lighter for a cigar smoking dude.

The Madballs Aargh, Dust Brain, and Slobulus previously done separately now combined to use as a print. Done completely in Photoshop on my Cintiq.

Armor-Dillo

By Gaz On August 16, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Challenges, Personal

Over at Mattycollector they are running a  create-a-character contest, below is my fist entry. Part of the contest is to use mainly pre-existing parts from other figures.

Armor-Dillo: EVIL ARMORED WARRIOR

REAL NAME: PLATO D-FENS
One of the many denzians living in the lower mountainlands of Eternia. His thick hide, makes him impervious to most damage. Not officially affliated with Skelletor, or any other group, he generally attacks caravans or other easy targets passing through his territory. This can bring him into conflict with He-man and other forces for good . Armor-Dillo is also often manipulated into doing Skelletor’s bidding by Beastman.

Madball Dust Brain

This is my rendition of the classic version of the Madball Dust Brain, from the original first wave of the toys. Done completely in Photoshop on my Cintiq.

AARGH! MADBALLS!!!

By Gaz On August 12, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Illustration, Personal

From the second, or third tier of 80′s toys comes the Madballs! Like many properties from that time, they have a had a recent Resurrection, and fittingly it had not done as well as it’s peers. Regardless, one cannot deny the gross over-the-top appeal of the disgusting characters as balls. This is my rendition of the classic version of the Madball Aargh, from the original first wave of the toys. Done completely in Photoshop on my Cintiq.

Raphael joins the Misfits…again.

By Gaz On June 20, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art

I made an image of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Raphael as one of the Misfits, for the wall of Illusive comics and Games, a CA Bay area comic shop. I decided to make it into a print. Inked with Japanese brush pen on Bristol, greys and color added in Photoshop.

burrito del zombi

By Gaz On June 16, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Commision, Sketches

Years ago Brian Lynch and/or Brian Sadecki asked me to draw a zombie burrito for some reason. I forget why, and I don’t know what I did with the doodle I did. But, I felt like doing a new one. Photoshop over pencil sketch.

An April for June.

Been in a TMNT drawing mood, this is a rough version of an April re-design I am working on. Photoshop over pencils.

Captain Atom

By Gaz On June 9, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art, Commision, Personal

I have busy with an animation project, and a few illustrations, none of which I can share yet, but in the meantime, I sketched this up with my double sided grey-black Japanese brush pen, and the atomic energy bands in Photoshop once I scanned it in. ENERGY!…ahem I mean ENJOY!

Big Wowed.

By Gaz On May 22, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art, Commision, Sketches, Work for Hire

So Big wow has come and gone, I had a pretty good time, sold some stuff, and socialized with old friends and new pals. It was a relatively small show which suited me just fine, as it was my first time tabling in years. I was a bad tabler however because I completely abandoned my post for both of Frank Cho’s  art demonstrations, and the Adam Hughes copic tutorial. *pssst* it was worth it! I still managed to sell some prints and do a couple sketches, my favorite was this one of Deadpool, for a guy’s 12 year old daughter, she apparently loves Deadpool and gore and horror movies, he’s raising her up right!

Breaking Bad

By Gaz On March 5, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art, Illustration

Bryan Cranston as Walter White from Breaking Bad. I did a bic sketch on a piece of scrap paper by my computer, then scanned it and did the rest in photohop. A little more designey than my usual style for this one.

Kolchak vs. the Zombie

By Gaz On February 26, 2011 · 2 Comments · In Comic Style Art, Personal

Poetic licence of the meeting between Carl Kolchak and the Zombie, from the classic episode of the Nightstalker series.

Roughs in Photoshop, inks on Bristol, digital clean-up and color in Photoshop.

SpaceSplosion

By Gaz On February 17, 2011 · 2 Comments · In Animation, Personal, Sketches

Just a quick sketch I did in-between computer art jobs for pay today.

Last night Q ans I were talking about how we should make a Sci-Fi cartoon.

That is the vague inspiration for this chap.

Another Kolchack sketch.

By Gaz On January 26, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Personal, Sketches

Another Kolchack sketch, cleaned it up a little in photoshop. I think this is closer to how he should look. Hard to make him look older and haggard, without making him look old and tired.

Kolchack 3

By Gaz On January 25, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art, Personal

Did two more sketches during 2 more episodes tonight, used blue pencil with regular #2 graphite over it, scanned and blue removed. Tried using a lap board for the first time, felt better on my back but worse on my stomach.

Kolchak: the night stalker 2

By Gaz On January 24, 2011 · Leave a Comment · In Comic Style Art, Personal

Kolchak the night stalker again, more than a sketch, but still not perfect. From the short lived cult 70′s show that was a fore runner to the X-files. Done completely on my Cintiq in Photoshop. I used a new brush for the inking, still included with Photoshop, but new to me. I also experimented with the coloring a bit mixing it between the lasso technique and freehand brushing.

Kolchak: the Nightstalker

Heard about this show a while ago, and when I listened to an episode of the Retroist about it recently I decided to Netflix it. Sketched this with a bic while watching. It was one of many I did, but the only one I am not too ashamed of to show.
